Bonfire (Poetry)

[I haven't written a poem in years but I was inspired by a friend of mine recently, who is not the subject of the poem, btw. It's not great, but I think it has potential.]

Purple, orange, gold
Ethereal spikes of radiation
Consume your every word
Substantiated by your letters

No more oceans of “forever”
Or recitation of our passions
Inked on lightly scented paper
Along your faded final image

Releasing prized inscriptions
Little razors through my fingers
Gravity fights briefly with convection
‘til “The Reach” becomes the victor

Sleep forever on this pyre
Fuel my catharsis never ending
What was “Love” becomes eternal
When its ashes raise to Heaven.
